POWERS
CONCUSSIVE OPTIC BLASTS Projects a powerful beam of heatless kinetic ruby-colored force from his eyes. Aided by his visor, he can change the power/size of the beams, from as thin as a needle to as wide as 135 degrees. The greater the output, the more his energy reserves are depleted; but thanks to practice, he rarely hits his limit, and never for more than 90 seconds.
  • Due to a childhood brain injury, he cannot "switch off" his powers except by closing his eyes, and must use ruby quartz lenses to stop the beams. When in costume, his blasts are controlled by a button on either side of his ruby quartz visor.
  • Immune to the effects of his own powers.
  • Absorbs and metabolizes ambient energies (solar, photon, cosmic) to power his optic blasts.
  • "Heatless kinetic force" — not a laser, actually feels more like getting hit by a battering ram or pressure washer.
SPATIAL AWARENESS Uncanny sense of trigonometry; able to observe his surroundings and precisely understand where everything is. This assists him in aiming his optic beams, ricocheting his beams off objects to hit a target, and in hand-to-hand combat, piloting and driving.

This is dependent on vision. He doesn't know his surroundings if his eyes are closed, but if he looks around and then closes his eyes, he will still have a complete sense of his surroundings from the last time he looked.
SKILLS
PILOTING Skilled pilot. The X-Men's jet is equipped with accommodations for his compromised color vision.
DRIVING Expert driver. Scott is fond of antique cars (1970s or earlier). He owns a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, an 18th birthday gift from Xavier, and a Porsche convertible.
MECHANIC Not a tech genius, but able to do field repairs on all kinds of vehicles, including the Blackbird and his own motorcycle. Big nerd when it comes to engines.
HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT Black belt in martial arts (judo, aikido).
BATTLE TACTICS/STRATEGY Multi-step plans for every possible disaster he can think of.
APPEARANCE
HAIR brown EYES red (brown) HEIGHT 6'3"
Once a tall, lanky teenager with the nickname "Slim," Scott now has the muscular physique of an Olympian athlete, although this isn't always obvious with the boring civilian clothing he wears. Lots of earth tones, bomber jackets, plain baseball caps, turtleneck sweaters, polo shirts, khakis, T-shirts, jeans, etc. He keeps his hair short and neatly styled. If he ever appears in public not clean-shaven, he's having a bad time. Perfect posture.

His eyes constantly output energy, making them glow red. (They were light brown before his powers activated.) Because of this, Scott always wears either sunglasses or a special visor with ruby-quartz lenses. His hidden eyes and stoic face often give the impression of being cold and unfriendly.

PERSONALITY The boy scout—brave, responsible, idealistic, rarely puts a toe out of line. Serious to the point where it used to be weird to see him smile; he's relaxed a fraction over the years.

Workaholic. Never stops thinking about the mission. Holds himself to high standards; suffers from self-doubt. Acts stoic and assured, but deeply internalizes criticism.

Pathologically afraid of losing control and hurting someone; copes by maintaining tight control over every facet of his personality and physical abilities. Always brooding.

Calm and decisive in deadly situations; cold and hesitant in social situations. Cares deeply about the X-Men, whom he sees as his family, but is awful at expressing his emotions. Highly repressed. Often says the wrong thing.

Pragmatist who wants to be an idealist. Constantly constructing contingency plans. Obsesses over worst case scenarios. Hyperfixates to the point of forgetting to eat or sleep properly.

aloof. disciplined. analytical. loyal. proud. protective. honest. obsessive. exacting. uptight. self-doubting. uncompromising moral code. hidden temper. lacks interpersonal skills.
HISTORY
FAMILY Major Christopher Summers, father. Assumed dead.
Katherine Summers, mother. Assumed dead.
Alex Summers, younger brother. University student.

Professor Charles Xavier, foster father.
Kurt Wagner, foster brother.
What Scott knows about his early childhood: when he was 10, he was found in a coma with his head bleeding, in the Nebraskan wilderness with his younger brother, Alex. He lacked clear memories of anything about his life before this point. Once they were released from the hospital, the boys were put into foster care. Alex was adopted out, while Scott stayed at the Essex House for Foundlings, a group home. He suffered from debilitating headaches and frequent blackouts, and was prescribed special ruby quartz sunglasses for his eyes' sensitivity to light.

(What Scott doesn't know: his father was an Air Force pilot, and the Summers family of four were flying when they were attacked by an alien Shi'ar spaceship. Scott's mother put the only working parachute on him, told him to hold onto Alex, and pushed them out of the plane before it exploded. Scott's optic beams first activated to slow their fall, and he hit his head upon landing. Essex House was run by Mr. Sinister, an evil geneticist who performed experiments on Scott and manipulated his memory. Sinister suppressed Scott's mutant powers for years, and gave him his first pair of ruby quartz glasses.)

When Scott was nearly 15, his powers emerged in full force. He blew a hole through the wall of the group home, narrowly missing the other children. Frightened and overwhelmed, Scott ran away and lived on the streets for a short time, until he used his powers again to knock falling construction equipment away from trapped workers. Bystanders reacted with fear and anger, and Scott was rescued by Jack Winters, a fellow mutant.

Jack abused and manipulated Scott into helping him commit high-profile thefts. The X-Men stopped Jack's crime spree, and brought Scott to the Institute, where Xavier offered to take him in. He gave Scott a ruby quartz visor, allowing him finer control over his optic beams, and assigned him the codename of Cyclops.
TIMELINE
2012 - AGE 10/11 Loses his parents in a plane crash. Found in a coma with his head bleeding. He and his younger brother, Alex, are transferred to Essex House, a foster group home specializing in children with serious medical needs.
2013 - AGE 11/12 Wakes up from his coma to learn that Alex has been adopted out, and that he's an amnesiac and functionally blind.
2014 - AGE 12/13 Regains his eyesight, but now suffers from debilitating headaches and frequent blackouts due to a TBI.
2016 - AGE 14/15 Powers fully manifest. Arrives at the Institute after the X-Men rescue him from Jack Winters. Adopts the codename of Cyclops.
2018 - AGE 16/17 Wildways - Despite racking up the most hours in the Danger Room out of anyone, Cyclops is so boring to the audiences of Mojoworld that they boo him when he enters Mojo's games.
2019 - AGE 17/18 Days of Future Past - Learns that he and Jean have a daughter (Rachel) in this alternate future, which is a mindfuck when he hasn't so much as breathed a word to anyone about his (obvious) crush on present-day Jean. Naturally, he compartmentalizes this information and does nothing about it. Scott follows Xavier's lead in all things, and opposes going public.

Not trusting that he can live among normal people, Scott pursues a post-secondary degree (History) through online school.
2020 - AGE 18/19 God Loves, Man Kills - Was accompanying Xavier when he was ambushed, and kidnapped alongside the professor. Scott is used as a test subject for forcing Xavier to kill mutants. Resisting Stryker's programming, Xavier puts Scott's brain functions into stasis, enough to make Stryker believe he's dead. Although he's saved in time to help the others rescue Xavier, Scott blames himself for failing to protect him.

Concerned about long-term effects, Xavier does a deep dive into Scott's head and discovers extensive mental manipulation from his time before joining the Institute. Although Xavier is unable to identify the telepath who altered his mind, Scott does regain some memories of his childhood, including the plane crash and being experimented on. As a precaution, he asks Emma Frost to train him in telepathic shielding.
2021 - AGE 19/20 Reveals his identity, although he prefers to just act as an X-Man. He'll do anything you order him to, Professor, but please don't make him do public speaking.

Going public puts Scott in contact with Alex Summers again, and it's a bit weird to everyone that Scott has never mentioned before now that he had a long-lost brother. Alex is a college freshman (and not a mutant unless someone wants to app Havok).

When Kurt vanishes, Scott is appointed as leader of the X-Men in his stead. He is now forced to do public speaking. :)
2022 - AGE 20/21 Scott begins dating Madelyne Pryor, a human pilot who bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Jean Grey. Due to increasingly tense human-mutant relations and Scott's high-profile status, there's an uncomfortable amount of media attention on their romance.

He does his best to follow Xavier's example and speak out against the MRA in a diplomatic way, with mixed results. Even after Kurt returns, Cyclops stays in the spotlight, as he's worried about putting too much pressure on Kurt.
2023 - AGE 21/22 X-Tinction Agenda - On Genosha, Scott is forced to battle a brainwashed Jean, and desperately tries to jog her memory and avoid hurting her, but ends up hitting her with his optic blasts. Not wanting to spend time with Jean afterwards, he chooses to help Genosha recover. Very soon afterwards, Scott and Maddie break up.
2024 - AGE 22/23 Returns home from Genosha just before the start of the new school year. He becomes a teacher at the school (geometry/trigonometry, history, battle tactics).

For the first time, Cyclops has a new uniform that doesn't cover his hair, which boosts his popularity online. He gets back together with Madelyne for two months, but they break up again before Christmas, at the same time Xavier is found in a coma. Scott is handling it.
2025 - AGE 23/24 Mark appears on the back of his right hand.
